Support Scheme
The Southrepps Support Scheme, which is a registered charity, is an organisation which was founded in 1992 through local initiative as a voluntary body with the primary objective of providing a general aid scheme for village residents. In addition to the aim of helping those having long or short term needs which the existing services are unable to satisfy, it also provides a 'meet and greet' service whereby any new resident moving into the village receives a personal visit and a welcome booklet which lists details of local services and organisations. It is obvious from the reaction of those visited that this service is extremely rare, if not unique, and stimulates a good community spirit.
Volunteers are available to help with transport to hospitals, GP surgeries and other recognised needs. A range of medical aids is maintained, such as wheelchairs, crutches etc. and certain baby care equipment, which are available to village residents.
The Scheme also runs a lunch club for older people on the second Wednesday of each month, where all are welcome.
The scheme relies entirely upon the efforts of volunteers, supported by local fund raising. The main events for generating funds are an annual Open Gardens day and a Carol Singing evening at each of the two village pubs.
