The village signs
Southrepps is a lovely rustic village set two miles inland from the sea and lying half way between North Walsham to the east and Cromer to the west. The village is in two halves (Upper Southrepps and Lower Southrepps) - for reasons unknown but probably to do with the Black Death - and is separated by a mile of farm land.
With over 600 on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll it is probably one of the larger of North Norfolk villages and is well served with two shops, one pub (and another on its border), a thriving primary school, a very large 15th century church (with a tower that dominates the local landscape) and a methodist chapel. It has a modern village hall which houses many different functions and a social club, located in Lower Street.
Lower Southrepps is the home to a Site of Special Scientific Interest in the form of a common where many rare species can be found. This is well managed by the Southrepps Commons Trust. The school is situated adjacent to the common - a wonderful place for local children to learn at first hand about nature and their environment.
The situation of the village is such that there are a number of published walks, including circular ones, that can be enjoyed.
Several clubs and societies run in the village and the Southrepps Support Scheme, who run a monthly club, endeavour to visit all newcomers with a Welcome Leaflet giving useful information.
