Protected Trees and Applications
Trees may be protected by way of a Tree Preservation Order, by being within a Conservation Area, or by the way of a condition imposed on a Planning Approval. The prior consent of the Local Planning Authority may be required to carry out any tree work.
For information about Trees, including a guide to tree preservation procedures, see Communities and Local Government Trees and High Hedges Pages.
To find out if a tree has protection use the search below, or telephone 01263 516165, or email trees@north-norfolk.gov.uk
If you would like to carry out work to a protected tree you should fill out the Government 1APP form 31 - Application for tree works: Works to Trees Subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) and/or Notification of Proposed Works to Trees in Conservation Areas (CA).
The Planning Portal 1App Application Form (pdf 312KB) should be printed and filled in manually, before being posted to Conservation, Design and Landscape, at the Council address on the form. Any queries should be directed to Telephone 01263 516165, or trees@north-norfolk.gov.uk - NOT the telephone numbers and e-mail address on the form. Alternatively you can send the application online using the Planning Portal.
The Planning Portal Help Document (pdf 132KB) may assist you in filling out the 'Proposed Tree Work' form and you should note the validation requirements 31 (pdf 55KB).
If we accept your application form then you will be sent a confirmation letter explaining when a decision will be made. This will normally be within 8 weeks for work to a tree subject to a Tree Preservation Order and 6 weeks for Conservation Area notifications and other applications.
