Flood Risk Assessment

You can check to see whether your property, or one you are interested in buying, is listed as being prone to flooding. The Environment Agency maintain this data and you can search online, by postcode, from their website.

The web pages are called 'What's in your backyard?' and provide information (datasets) that include:

  • Floodplains - see if your house is near a potential area of flooding.
  • Bathing Waters - check the water quality at the local beach.
  • Discharges to Sea - see what substances are being released into the sea.
  • Groundwater - what activities protect water supplies?
  • Flood Warning Areas - check the current flooding situation.
  • Landfill Sites - see if you live near a landfill site.
  • Pollution Inventory - check what pollution is being emitted from industrial sites in your area.
  • IPC and Waste OPRA Scores - How does the Agency rate the pollution hazards and operation of my local factory or waste facility?
  • River Quality and Targets - check the water quality of the river near your home and see what targets have been set.
  • Find your local Environment Agency Office
  • Catchment Abstraction Management Strategies (CAMS) - see how is water managed in the local area.
  • Urban Waste Water Treatment - "What affect does my local sewage works have on the nutrients of it's associated sensitive area?"
  • Hi-Flows - "What is the peak flood level recorded at my local gauging station?"
