Changing the Name of a Property

Adding a name to a house number:

Please note that if your property has a house number, it will not be possible to replace the number with a name. However, a name can be used in conjunction with the original number.

The original number should always be displayed at the property and quoted within your address on all correspondence, for example:

The Cottage
1 The Street
The Town
Norfolk
NR70 0ZZ

Changing the name of an existing property address - a do-it-yourself guide

  • When you have chosen the name you would like to use for your property, the first step is to discover whether the name is already in use on any other property in the area. The quickest way to do this is to contact us on 01263 516048. If there are any properties in the immediate area with the same or similar name, then a rethink may be necessary. It is rare for this situation to occur, however care must be given to ensure that you do not experience problems with the delivery of your mail.
  • When a name has been confirmed, the Street Naming & Numbering Team will notify internal departments (Council Tax, Electoral Roll & Environmental Health) and Royal Mail on your behalf.

Informing other Organisations
There are a number of other organisations who will need to know about your change of address once it has been agreed. We will send you details of these and it is your responsibility to inform them as soon as possible.
