Landscape Character Assessment
Landscape Character Assessment is a tool used to help decision making in areas such as planning and landscape conservation, management and enhancement. It can aid the decision making process and at the same time make a significant contribution to the objectives of sustainable development that relate to environmental protection and the prudent use of natural resources.
It is a process of assessing the particular features (individual items such as churches) and elements (general items such as hills) within landscapes which make one landscape different from another. This process tries to break down the overall landscape into its constituent parts and identifies character and distinctiveness as well as value.
