Trimingham

Pilgrim Shelter Project

Aims

Enable the provision of a new village hall in Trimingham in place of the existing Pilgrim Shelter.

Background

Trimingham Pilgrim Shelter

Trimingham Village Hall (The Pilgrim Shelter) is a facility that the community of Trimingham is proud of; being something of a cultural/ historic icon locally. It is, however, very small, has very limited space around it for parking and outdoor uses and is inadequate for many of the potential uses to which it could be put. The building is likely to be lost to erosion within approximately 20 - 30 years; consequently it is not considered to be viable (or sensible) to invest in extensions or improvements to it. This project is to enable a replacement village hall to be provided within the village, in a more sustainable location.

How and when is the project being delivered?

This project is being managed by the Coastal Management Team and the Project Officer is Rob Young (Coastal Planner) and supported by Rob Goodliffe (Pathfinder Programme Manager).  The Parish Council is playing a key role and has assisted in the setting up of the Trimingham Liaison Group and the community open day.

For more information please view the Project Initiation Document.

How much money has been allocated to the project?

The Pathfinder projects have been allocated budgets to enable them to be planned and proceed.  These allocations may be amended as projects progress.  The Pilgrim Shelter Project budget was amended and increased to £200,006.

Of the budget £200,000 has been secured for use by the community in the development of the village hall.  An initial payment of £60,000 has been made; this will be followed by a further £140,000 once plans, consents and additional funding (if required) are in place.

£200,000 may sound like a lot of money, but further funds may be required to complete the construction of the village hall.  The project will need to investigate where further funds are needed where they will come from.

How is the community involved?

Trimingham Liason Group

The Parish Council have played an important role in setting up the
Trimingham Village Hall Liaison Group.  This group will help to keep local people informed, ensure the project is sensitive to local circumstances and identify any issues which may arise around site selection and design.

Events

Public open days will be arranged at key points in the project to enable the project team and liaison group to share information with residents to keep them updated.  They will also be an opportunity to explore any issues or ideas with site selection, site layout and building design.

  • Open day – Saturday 6 March 2010
The Parish Council helped NNDC set up a community open day which took place on Saturday 6 March 2010.  The day investigated potential new sites for a village hall and what the new village hall should be like.  The day was a great success with in excess of 70 residents visiting.  The presentation information, comments from residents and the post open day report can be downloaded in the further information section below.
  • Open meeting - Saturday 24 July 2010
The meeting gave the opportunity for members of the community to become further involved in the preferred new site, design, funding, community involvement, ownership and management.

How can I keep informed of this project?

NNDC will keep the Parish Council up to date on progress with this project.  We will also keep everyone informed by this website either on the project page or at the ‘Latest News’ section.  We will also release press articles and we will request articles in the parish ‘Land and Strand’ newsletter.  You can also subscribe for free to our Pathfinder Newsletter by sending a request to coastalmanagement@north-norfolk.gov.uk.

In June the Pathfinder Team produced a specific newsletter for the Trimingham project - download it here.
