Salthouse

Aims

Assist interested local organisations in appraising the options available in retaining car parking facilities in Salthouse.

Background

Salthouse is a coastal village on the north Norfolk coast which is fronted by marshland protected by a shingle bank.  The car park is located directly behind the shingle bank and is accessed via a minor road between the village and car park.  The village of Salthouse (Pop 200) depends heavily on visitors for its economic life and this car park is seen as important to its long term economic security.

Since the decision to cease maintenance of the Cley and Salthouse shingle banks (a move supported by the Council) and a storm surge in late 2007 the car park has become partially overwhelmed by the shingle of the spreading bank.  As the movement of the shingle continues the car park will continue to be under threat and it is only a matter of time before it is lost totally.

This project will assist local organisations in appraising the options available in retaining car parking facilities in Salthouse.

How and when is the project being delivered?

This project although is an integral part of the Pathfinder, is currently not a priority project.  Therefore no project officer has yet been identified and there is currently no budget allocated to the project.  As the programme progresses the project will be reconsidered and if officer time and pathfinder funds permit, the project will be started.

How can I keep informed of this project?

We will keep this website updated to any changes in the projects status either on this project page or at the ‘Latest News’ section.  You can also subscribe for free to our Pathfinder Newsletter by sending a request to coastalmanagement@north-norfolk.gov.uk.
