Clifftop Enhancement Project

Happisburgh Cliff Top Enhancement and Relocation of Threatened Infrastructure Project

Aims

To create a buffer of open land along the cliff top in Happisburgh relocating the car park, providing new public conveniences, a new pedestrian beach access ramp and cliff top paths.

Background

Cliffs

This project aims to create a buffer of open land along the cliff top at Happisburgh which is free from dereliction and blight.  The enhancement will incorporate a new beach assess, car park, public lavatories, cliff top paths and will investigate the relocation of threatened infrastructure such as the Coastguard Station.

This is a wide ranging project that aims to improve the local environment, help meet the needs of local residents and restore Happisburgh’s role as an attractive visitor destination. It links to all the other Happisburgh Projects.

The removal of the various cliff top properties and other uses will provide a ‘buffer’ of land within which the coast can change without detrimentally affecting people, infrastructure or the environment. This presents an opportunity to enhance the environment in this important part of the village. The relocation of the car park and the re-provision of public conveniences in a suitable location will be an important element of this project, as too will be the creation of a new pedestrian slope to access the beach.

How and when is the project being delivered?

This project is being managed by the Coastal Management Team and due to the direct links with the other Happisburgh projects, will involve all members of the team.  The Parish Council is playing a key role and has assisted in the setting up of the Happisburgh Liaison Group.
