Come along to the biggest-ever GreenBuild

This year’s GreenBuild sustainable living event promises to be the biggest-ever, as organisers North Norfolk District Council confirmed that 76 exhibitors have so far signed up to attend in the grounds of Felbrigg Hall this weekend.

The event is sponsored by Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm and visitors will also be able to find out about the progress of this renewable energy project off the North Norfolk coast, at their stand at the event.

Green Build is open, free, from 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, 11 and 12 September at the National Trust-owned Felbrigg Hall, near Cromer. Parking is free.

The event is aimed at people who want to find out how to lead a greener lifestyle, so there will be exhibitors of green technologies like solar panels and electric bikes, and experts in local and traditional products such as cob building and thatching. Talks and advice from exhibitors and volunteers will cover everything from how to grow-your-own to advice on grants for generating renewable energy, and home insulation. North Norfolk District Council’s Building Control, Waste and Recycling, Conservation and Design, Planning and Environmental Health teams will also be ready to chat with visitors and answer questions.

During the weekend, kids and adults alike will be amused and entertained by theatre shows, storybook readings, craft workshops and even a ‘creepy-crawlie roadshow’. If all that isn’t enough, the food court and farmers’ market will offer excellent local food and fresh homemade and organic produce.

Budding gardeners will be able to pick up green-fingered tips on free guided tours of Felbrigg Hall’s famous walled garden, and visitors to the event on the Saturday afternoon will also be welcome to attend the presentation of the 2010 North Norfolk Environment Awards, at 3pm.

Helen Dixon, Sustainability Co-ordinator at NNDC and one of the organisers of the event, said: “GreenBuild has grown year on year to become the number one event in Norfolk and the East of England for anyone who is interested in green and sustainable lifestyles. With more people becoming enthusiastic about living in a greener way, last year we had over 7000 visitors over the course of the weekend, no doubt due thanks to the wide-ranging appeal of the event. There is something for everyone, from families looking to cut their gas bills to zero-carbon gurus. Every year we are pleasantly surprised at how informed our visitors are about all things green, but we also get a lot of people who are just looking for a fun day out with plenty of great food, entertainment, and hopefully sunshine!”
