Inaugural Sea Palling Reef Swim
The inaugural Sea Palling Reef Swim, organised by Active Outdoor Sport in partnership with North Norfolk District Council and the RNLI, was held on Sunday 15 August when 58 brave swimmers took to the North Sea from one of North Norfolk’s finest blue flag beaches on a day of high wind and heavy swell.
Competitors aged between 14 and 70 years of age completed the mile long swim, demonstrating that swimming really is a sport for all and despite the conditions some fast times were recorded. The overall winner was Jarrod Bradfield of Colchester Swim Club, completing the course in an impressive 19:15, closely followed by Harry Smith from City of Norwich Swimming Club. First female was Maisie Fox, just beating Ellie Fairfoot, both representing City of Norwich Swimming Club.
North Norfolk District Council’s Leisure and Cultural Services Manager Karl Read said, “We’re delighted that Sea Palling was chosen as the venue for this swim, the first of its kind for North Norfolk. We’re hoping this will be an annual event and encourage yet more people to take up swimming”.
