Councillor suspended for three months

17 March 2010

Councillor Richard Price, North Norfolk District Council Member for Waxham, has been suspended for three months with immediate effect for two breaches of the Members’ Code of Conduct.

A Hearing Panel of NNDC’s Standards Committee yesterday [Tuesday, 16 March] found that Councillor Price had failed to declare a personal and prejudicial interest, and had misused information that he was privy to in his role as a District Councillor. A third allegation — that he had used this information to secure an advantage for himself or another — was not proved.

The panel found that Councillor Price had failed to declare his membership of Cromer Preservation Society when acting as a substitute member of the Development Control Committee (East) on 14 May, 2009. He was also found to have used information acquired at this meeting in an inappropriate fashion, and to have attempted to speak at a subsequent meeting of the same committee knowing that he had a prejudicial interest in the matter.

The Hearing Panel consisted of one independent member, one parish council member and one district councillor in accordance with the rules laid down by Standards for England. Arrangements are being made for other Councillors to take over Councillor Price’s responsibilities in Waxham Ward during his suspension.
