Experience the power of orchestral music during North Norfolk festivals

Four North Norfolk festivals will host top-quality orchestral concerts featuring music from around the world and across the centuries, performed by two of the country’s most highly-regarded touring orchestras.

North Norfolk District Council is teaming up with four North Norfolk cultural festivals and Orchestras Live (the national agency for developing orchestral music) to present a brand new series of concerts across the District from May to October this year.

In May, the City of London Sinfonia Brass Quintet will play at St Peter's Church in Sheringham as part of the Crab and Lobster Festival held jointly with neighbouring Cromer. Their programme includes Handel's Water Music and traditional sea shanties, fittingly, along with pieces by Gershwin, Rossini and Sullivan.

The Happing Festival hosts the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble at St Catherine's Church, Ludham, in July with a programme including Britten, Puccini and Mozart.

Later in July, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields also plays at the Auden Theatre as part of the Holt Summer Festival. Grieg, Vivaldi, Holst and Warlock feature on the programme.

Then in October, the City of London Sinfonia returns to St Peter's Church for the Cromer and Sheringham Arts Festival with pieces by Handel, Sibelius, Haydn and Vivaldi.

Councillor Hilary Nelson, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Cultural Services, said: “We’re fantastically fortunate to have such exceptional musicians coming to North Norfolk to play for us. This repertoire will appeal to people of all ages, but most of all it will be a chance for young people to experience the power and joy of live orchestral music.”
