A specialist firm of architects has been appointed to come up with proposals for securing an improved and sustainable future for the Maltings and adjacent Sackhouse buildings at Wells-next-the-Sea.
A specialist firm of architects has been appointed to come up with proposals for securing an improved and sustainable future for the Maltings and adjacent Sackhouse buildings at Wells-next-the-Sea.
Cambridge-based RH Partnership Architects were chosen by the Wells Maltings Project Group at a meeting on 7 October to develop a feasibility study that includes ideas, designs and a business case for refurbishing and revitalising the Maltings complex, so it can be the best possible community facility for years to come.
RH Partnership specialises in the kind of community project called for in Wells, bringing together the disciplines of conservation, design, community involvement and business planning to consider the needs and aspirations of current and future population of Wells and its surrounding area.
Peter Lynn of the Wells Area Partnership, who chairs the Maltings Project Group, said: “The Maltings complex has a special place at the heart of the town, and without investment it would face an uncertain future. We can get that investment, thanks to the regeneration partnership that has come together in the town, but we need to know what we will be investing in.”
He stressed: “Any development at the Maltings has to be something that the town wants, and it has to be something that can be sustained well into the future. RH Partnership is superbly qualified to come up with proposals that fit those criteria.”
The design, research and consultation activities to be carried out by RH Partnership are expected to last three months. Funding for the study has been granted from the Sea Change Fund being delivered by Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), with funding support also provided by the North Norfolk Community Partnership and North Norfolk District Council.
