Rural buildings conversion policy — consultation under way
The draft new policy for converting and re-using North Norfolk’s distinctive rural buildings is open for public comments.
The draft new policy for converting and re-using North Norfolk’s distinctive rural buildings is open for public comments.
The policy sets out which types of building could be suitable for conversion, and where. Once it is examined and agreed by an independent Planning Inspector, it will be included in North Norfolk District Council’s Local Development Framework of planning policies, and will be used in assessing planning applications in North Norfolk up to 2021.
Councillor Virginia Gay, Leader of NNDC, said: “We want a policy that will help to breathe new life into our rural areas, by allowing redundant buildings to be re-used while also preserving the well-loved character of our countryside. It is important for anyone who is affected by this policy, or interested in the sustainability of our rural economies and communities, to have their say so their views can be considered before the policy is adopted.”
The six-week consultation on the draft Conversion and Re-Use of Rural Buildings as Dwellings policy began on 2 October, and runs until 13 November.
To see the draft policy and other relevant documents, and to find out how to take part in the consultation, visit North Norfolk libraries or North Norfolk District Council offices, or go to www.northnorfolk.org/ldf
