Deadline approaching for building conservation awards
Architects, designers and developers have until 30 June to enter an annual award scheme that recognises and rewards the very best in new building, conservation and design in North Norfolk.
Architects, designers and developers have a fortnight to enter an annual award scheme that recognises and rewards the very best in new building, conservation and design in North Norfolk.
Entries for this year’s Graham Allen Award for Conservation and Design, given by North Norfolk District Council, must be received by 30 June.
Last year’s winner was Oddfellows Hall, Sheringham, which was built to house the town’s first lifeboat in 1867, and was converted by architects Chaplin Farrant for Sheringham Plus Community Partnership, to provide two floors of accommodation for meetings and functions. The building’s new two-storey, timber-framed extension to its front elevation reflects the building’s maritime past and creates an attractive new focal point within the town centre.
The residential conversion of Snoring Barn in Hindringham was highly commended last year, while the North Norfolk Information Centre in Cromer received a commendation for its bespoke, contemporary design.
Inaugurated in 1982, the Graham Allen Award recognises those projects which have made an important contribution to North Norfolk's distinctive built environment.
