Sheringham regains Blue Flag
The resort of Sheringham can fly the coveted Blue Flag for water quality again, alongside Cromer, Mundesley and Sea Palling.
Sheringham missed out on a Blue Flag in 2008, because heavy rains the previous year affected the results when its bathing water quality was monitored. Now it is back where it belongs among 12 other Blue Flag beaches in East Anglia, and 71 around England.
The flags will be raised after the coming county and European elections.
Karl Read, Leisure and Cultural Services Manager for North Norfolk District Council, said: “We always knew that Sheringham’s loss was a one-off, and that it would bounce right back with a Blue Flag this year. In fact, the number of Blue Flags across the country is down this year, and that’s mainly due to heavy rainfall “run-off”, which causes temporary contamination of the bathing water.
“Blue Flags are an important signal to holidaymakers that they can expect the best standard of cleanliness when they go for a swim or a paddle on our beaches. When times are tight, people take their holidays close to home, so it’s important we do what we can to make North Norfolk as attractive a destination as possible.”
