Councillor Mark Birch resigns, election due in June
Liberal Democrat District Councillor Mark Birch has resigned from his North Walsham West seat because of ill health.
Councillor Birch was elected to North Norfolk District Council 10 years ago and he has held a number of posts, including sitting on the Cabinet (and before that, the Executive Committee), and planning and standards committees.
A by-election for the vacant North Walsham West seat will be held on 4 June, at the same time as the County Council and European Parliament elections.
North Norfolk District Council Chief Executive Philip Burton said: “I would like to thank Councillor Birch for his contributions to the life of the Council and wish him all the very best for the future.”
NNDC’s Chairman, Councillor Sue Arnold, said: “I am very sorry to hear that Mark Birch has had to resign. During his time on the Council he has shown great commitment to the people of North Walsham and North Norfolk, and taken on demanding roles and great responsibility. His wisdom will be missed and we wish him well.”
