The John Sweeney Award - An apple tree for Holt Hall
Holt Hall, a North Norfolk environmental field studies centre, will be planting an apple tree next week [3 March] in recognition of its ongoing impact in raising environmental awareness by offering outdoor education reaching pupils across many schools, and working with community volunteers.
Holt Hall, which is run by Norfolk County Council, earned the apple tree by winning the John Sweeney Award in last year's North Norfolk District Council Environment Awards. Given in memory of the late Councillor John Sweeney, the award is given to a project that deserves special recognition, outside the four main categories.
The tree will be presented to Holt Hall at 10.30am on Tuesday, 3 March, by Councillor Sweeney's widow Anthea (herself District Councillor for Chaucer ward) and planted in the study centre's grounds. The media are welcome to attend.
The annual Environment Awards are now in their 15th year, and recognise and reward projects that sustain and improve the North Norfolk environment. They are given in four categories: schools, community, building and small business. Entries are now being sought for the 2009 awards, with a closing date of 12 June.
