Bright new look for Sheringham Little Theatre

24 September 2012

North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has announced that work will begin towards the end of September to provide more convenient access and smarten up the look of Sheringham Little Theatre.

The works, which follow the recommendations of a 2011conditions survey, will see the overhaul of the roof, gutters and downpipes; the repair and redecoration of all external painted surfaces and the cleaning of all other external surfaces; provision of a new flat roof for the upper plant room area; the installation of more attractive and appropriate windows on the ground floor, which will not just look better but also allow in more light, and the replacement of damaged double-glazing units.

A highlight of the works will be the replacement of the existing main entrance with a new automatic sliding door, providing easier access for all visitors, especially wheelchair access, and improving general access to the theatre’s booking office and cafe areas.

Following a rigorous procurement process the works will be undertaken by contractors Thrower and Rutland of Felthorpe.

During the course of the work and to accommodate the necessary scaffolding, there will need to be temporary closure of the pavements outside the theatre, on both Church Street and Station Road.

Rhodri Oliver, District Councillor for Sheringham South and NNDC Board Representative on the Sheringham Little Theatre Board of Trustees, said, “I am delighted that the District Council has been able to fund this vital restoration programme, which will greatly improve the Sheringham theatre experience for everyone.”

Wyndham Northam, NNDC Cabinet Member for Corporate Assets, said, “Sheringham Little Theatre is a cultural gem in North Norfolk. We are very lucky to have it and will do what we can to continue to support its work."
