Topping out the North Norfolk Information Centre4 April, 2008Construction on the new North Norfolk Information Centre at Cromer has reached its highest point, an occasion marked with beer and a blessing at a ceremony today [4 April]. Councillor Barbara McGoun, Chairman of North Norfolk District Council 'anointed' the building with a bottle of Yetmans beer at the topping out ceremony on the prominent Louden Road site, and thanked the contractors and others involved in the project, while the Vicar of Cromer, Reverend David Court, performed a blessing to wish the building well in service to residents and visitors in years to come. The North Norfolk Information Centre will house the relocated Cromer Tourist Information Centre - the District Council's only year-round tourist information service - and will also act as a reception point for North Norfolk District Council and, in a 'virtual' form, other local services as well. Cromer TIC will continue to operate from its current Prince of Wales Road site until the Information Centre is finished. Construction of the £775,000 building is due to finish in June, with the opening planned for early July. The European Regional Development Fund has provided £150,000 towards the cost through its Objective 2 programme for the East of England, with the rest being met by the District Council. ENDS
