Just one month to go to 'Smoke-Free'

Councils from across Norfolk are joining together for an event to be held on Cromer Pier on Friday 1 June to remind everyone that there is just one month to go before all public places in England become 'Smoke-Free'.

From 1 July smoking will be banned in public places such as pubs and clubs, offices, factories, cinemas and theatres as well as on public transport, including taxis. Many have been smoke-free for years, but from 1 July the new legislation will apply across the board. People will still be able to smoke outside such premises and in private homes.

On 1 June, as part of the countdown to 'Smoke-Free' Day, Councils will be launching their new 'Norfolk style' poster for public places, based on the famous words of the 'Singing Postman', "Hev yew gotta loight, boy?" A new Singing Postman, Andrew Stannard, will be on hand to sing of an updated version of Allan Smethurst's immortal tune.

Remember, all public places in England go ''Smoke-Free' on 1 July.

"Councils can support businesses in a number of ways to make it all go pretty smoothly," says Chris Cawley, Environmental Health Manager for North Norfolk District Council, "and this event is just one of the activities we are undertaking to ensure that everyone is fully prepared for 1 July."

You are invited to join Andrew Stannard for a photocall on Cromer Pier 10.30 to 11.30am on Friday 1 June. Representatives from Norfolk councils will be available for interview. Refreshments will be available.
