All About Composting

30 April, 2007

Home Composting Awareness Week takes place from Friday 4 to Sunday 13 May, spreading the message that composting is a really simple thing to do at home to help the environment, reduce rubbish and get a valuable resource for gardens.

Among a number of events across the county North Norfolk District Council and Norfolk County Council will be in Fakenham on the Bridge Street Car Park from 8.30am to 2pm on Thursday 10 May. A special Compost Awareness stand will be manned by Master Composters, ready to answer questions and offer expert advice on all aspects of composting. There will be a selection of home compost bins to inspect and information will be available on how to buy the right one to suit particular needs.

Everyone is welcome and visitors to the stand unable to compost at home will be able to find out more about North Norfolk District Council's 'Brown Bin' collection. Through this scheme green garden waste is collected from households and taken in bulk for composting locally. The excellent end product is then used for landscaping schemes and samples of the compost will be on show on the day.

North Norfolk residents can also find out more about composting at Blickling Hall, near Aylsham on Monday 7 May, 11am - 4pm, in the garden, or visit the Kelling Estate Community Composting project near Holt, Thursday 10 May to Saturday 12 May, 10am - 4pm.
