Enter now for the North Norfolk Environment Awards!

19 March, 2007

Do you know of a project in North Norfolk that's designed to clean up our environment? Are you involved in a scheme to protect a corner of our beautiful District? Is there work being done in your town or parish to promote the sustainable use of resources?

Those projects could be in line for a North Norfolk Environment Award.

North Norfolk District Council has run the award scheme since 1994, and many excellent, exciting and innovative activities have been recognised and rewarded over the years - ranging from planting organic apple orchards to maintaining village green conservation areas, from sewage treatment improvements to creating school wildlife gardens.

Now the Council wants to hear again from schools, community groups, small businesses and the people behind green build projects about the work they are doing to protect our environment and to further the principles of sustainability. To enter, projects must be wholly or partly in the District of North Norfolk, and must demonstrate a positive contribution to the environment in the last year through one or more of the following:

  • increasing environmental understanding
  • improving use of resources
  • caring for the natural environment
  • reducing pollution
  • contributing to the principles of Local Agenda 21.

The Schools category will again be supported by the North Norfolk News and Dereham and Fakenham Times this year, with North Norfolk Radio supporting the Community category, and the CSV Action Desk at BBC Radio Norfolk supporting the green build category. There is a fourth category: small business (with 10 employees or fewer).

The deadline for entries is 31 May. Judges will then visit the entrants in June, with an awards presentation in July.

To enter, pick up an entry form from Council offices at Cromer or Fakenham, or email env.awards@north-norfolk.gov.uk to request one.
