Roadshow Brings Advice on Preparing for Flooding12 September, 2006People who live in North Norfolk areas threatened by flooding are invited to Sea Palling on Wednesday, 20 September, where North Norfolk District Council and other organisations are holding a special roadshow. NNDC emergency planning officers, along with local flood wardens and officers from the Environment Agency and Norfolk Constabulary, will be on hand to advise people on what they can do to protect their properties, and how they should react if flooding happens. The roadshow will be held in the Clink Road car park at Sea Palling, from 10am to 4pm. Visitors to the roadshow will be able to discuss flood-related issues, see maps of local risk areas and view practical demonstrations of permanent flood defence products to protect homes and businesses. The roadshow will also be an opportunity for people to find out about NNDC's new charging regime for sandbags. In an emergency sandbags will still be free from the Council the first time they are needed, but on subsequent occasions there will be a £20 charge for five sandbags plus £2 for each extra bag (though the Council will deliver the bags). People can no longer collect sandbags from Council offices or depots. The charges are designed to steer people away from a reliance on temporary and less effective measures to protect their homes and valuables, and towards more robust and sustainable solutions to flooding problems. NNDC Civil Contingencies Manager Ace Dann said: "With autumn almost upon us and a lot of concern being expressed about the planetary high tide that's due on 9 October, now is a great time for people to find out from the Environment Agency how to make properties more resilient to flooding, and get some peace of mind."
