New Short-Stay and Long-Stay Summer Parking

26 May, 2006

North Norfolk District Council is introducing new summer short-stay and long-stay car park charging arrangements on Saturday, 1 July. The summer scheme runs until Saturday, 30 September.

The charging system features long-stay coastal car parks for visitors who want to spend the day on the beach or explore the area, and short-stay shoppers' car parks, with a maximum two-hour stay, in coastal town centres. A mini-stay facility is being introduced at some town centre car parks, allowing shoppers to park for 20 minutes for just 10p.

North Norfolk District Council has produced a 'Where to Park in North Norfolk' leaflet, which fully explains the new charging system. It includes a map of the District and town centre maps for Cromer, Fakenham, North Walsham and Sheringham. Copies are available from all tourist information centres in the District, and from Fakenham Connect and the Council office in Cromer. The maps and parking information can also be downloaded from www.northnorfolk.org (see Car Parking).

Long-stay car parks: Runton Road, Cromer; Cart Gap, Happisburgh; Beach Road, Mundesley; Pauls Lane, Overstrand; Clink Road, Sea Palling; Cliff Road and Station Yard, Sheringham; Stearmans Yard, Wells.

Short-stay car parks: Meadow car park, Cromer; Chequers car park and Morris Street, Sheringham; Staithe Street, Wells.

Standard car parks (hourly rate, 8am to 6pm): Bacton (off Coast Road); Cadogan Road, Cromer; Beach Road, East Runton; Queens Road, Bridge street and The Limes, Fakenham; Happisburgh; The Swan, Horning; Albert Street and Station Yard, Holt; Bank Loke, New Road and Vicarage Street, North Walsham; High Street, Stalham; Beach Road, Weybourne.

Charges are applicable daily from 8am to 6pm and are as follows:
• long-stay £1 an hour, maximum charge £4, ticket transferable between long-stay car parks
• short-stay 60p an hour, maximum stay two hours
• standard car parks, 60p an hour, 8am to 6pm
• mini-stay at some town centre car parks, 10p for 20 minutes.
• Disabled blue badge holders are not exempt from charges.

Charging arrangements are also being introduced on Cromer Promenade (where only disabled parking is allowed): £1 per morning session (8am-1pm) and £1 per afternoon session (1pm-6pm).

Councillor Peter Moore, Cabinet Member for Resources said: "Our new summer parking scheme is designed to ensure that there is plenty of parking for local residents wanting to shop in our town centres, and the mini-stay ticket should help the vitality of town centre shops ever further. The long-stay car parks will encourage holidaymakers to park outside town centres. The ability to transfer tickets between the long-stays will also make it easier for visitors to explore our wonderful coastline and visitor attractions."

The summer charging arrangements will start earlier, from 1 June to 30 September, in future years.
