Enter Now for Conservation and Design Awards13 June, 2005Sensitive property renovation projects and new buildings which make innovative use of traditional features and detailing could be in line for an award from North Norfolk District Council. Entries are being sought for this year's Graham Allen Award, the annual NNDC award for excellence in conservation and design. The closing date for entries is 30 June, 2005. Inaugurated in 1982 as a memorial to the late GS Allen, the first Chairman of NNDC, the Graham Allen Award recognises the scheme - whether the renovation or conservation of a historic property, or a completely new building - which makes the biggest contribution to North Norfolk's unique built environment. Last year's winner was Alicia Cottages at Bacton, a row of three derelict 18th Century homes that had stood empty for nearly 40 years, but were brought back into use as rented homes for local people. Winners in previous years include the new cloisters and refectory at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and the lifeboat house on Cromer Pier, as well as projects that have seen redundant and/or refurbished buildings turned into private homes. NNDC Senior Conservation and Design Officer Chris Young said: "The Graham Allen Award isn't just for high-profile, prestige projects. Down North Norfolk's lanes and byways there are architects, designers, owners and builders doing excellent work bringing new life to old buildings of all shapes and sizes, or creating totally new structures that respect the District's traditional styles, methods and materials. "We want to give them the recognition they deserve." For more information, or for an entry form, call Mr Young on 01263 516138 or email cy@north-norfolk.gov.uk ENDS
