All Aboard for a Great 'Day Out in North Norfolk'!

8 April, 2005

The Day Out in North Norfolk travel trade show pulls onto the Poppy Line later this month to build up a head of steam for the best of the District's attractions.

The annual event will run for two days, Friday and Saturday 22 and 23 April, bringing 50 of North Norfolk's top tourism businesses together under one marquee roof at the Poppy Line's Holt Station at High Kelling.

The first day, Friday, is a platform for North Norfolk's attractions and accommodation providers to show invited group travel organisers from around the country what the District has to offer, so they can plan to bring holidaymakers to North Norfolk in coming months and years. The show will not be open to the general public on the Friday.

On the Saturday the exhibition is open to the public from 10am to 4pm, so they can find out about all the things to see and do - to suit all ages, interests and budgets - on their very doorsteps.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to travel on the Poppy Line for half price, by kind permission of the show's hosts, and will also get the chance to see new developments on the railway - like the Victorian former M&GN Stalham Station building, which was re-erected at the Poppy Line's Holt terminus and opened on Boxing Day last year. Alongside the Holt station building, a goods shed which used to stand at Thursford Station is to house the William Marriott Railway Museum, due to open next year.

On the Friday, the show will be officially opened at 11am by the Chairman of North Norfolk District Council (an appointment for 2005/06 that has yet to be confirmed), followed by the presentation of the 2004 North Norfolk Tourism Awards by NNDC Cabinet Member Hilary Nelson, and the launch of the 2005 Seaside Special (with a chance to meet the star of the show, Barnaby, and - returning after last year - male vocalist Adam Porter-Smith).

A variety of family entertainment will be on offer on the Saturday (a programme is attached). Car parking at the show is free.

The media are welcome to attend on either day, 22 or 23 April. Please call Nick Manthorpe on 01263 516059 or 07748 641715 from 18 April to confirm you will be attending, if possible, and for help arranging interviews etc.
