28 January, 2005

An election will be held for a new District Councillor to represent North Norfolk's St Benet Ward on Tuesday, 22 February, following the death of Councillor Colin Haddow in December.

Following the close of nominations on 26 January, three nominations have been received as follows:

HOW, Christopher Thomas Maling - The Conservative Party Candidate

MCGOUN, Barbara Alexandra - Liberal Democrat

SPENCER, David Gregory - Labour Party Candidate

Please note that the deadlines for changing existing proxy or postal voting arrangements or applying for new arrangements in this regard have now passed.

St Benet Ward, which includes Horning, Neatishead and Barton Turf in the Broads area, has almost 1800 registered electors.

Councillor Colin Haddow had represented the area for 10 years before his death, after a short illness, on 15 December. He was, at the time of his death, Leader of the Conservative and Independent Alliance Group at North Norfolk District Council. Councillor Bernard Crowe, who represents the Glaven Valley Ward, has been named as the new Group Leader.
