Artists Chosen for Cromer Artlights

12 May, 2004

Issued on behalf of the Cromer Seafront Regeneration Public Art Programme

Ten artists living and working in North Norfolk have been selected to participate in Artlights, an outdoor public exhibition in Cromer in October 2004.

The selected artists, who represent a wide range of experience and disciplines, will be developing new temporary works to be projected in and onto external locations around Cromer's seafront and town centre.

Stephanie Gilbert, one of the chosen artists, said: "Artlights is an inspirational concept with which to focus the region's attention on Cromer. The town enjoys a strong sense of community and it is wholly apt that local artists are involved. I am delighted to have been chosen and look forward to working in a completely new medium."

This initiative is part of the Cromer Seafront Regeneration Public Art Programme, which has appointed David Ward as Lead Artist. David is currently working with the design team to develop a number of projects, including a seafront lighting and enhancement scheme. David comments that this temporary exhibition will "allow Cromer to see the work of these artists as part of the very fabric of the town itself."

The programme is being managed by Commissions East with funding from North Norfolk District Council and Arts Council England, East. Artlights is being delivered in partnership with Norwich Arts Centre.
