'Real Nappy Roadshow' comes to Cromer26 March, 2004A campaign to promote the use of non-disposable nappies comes to Cromer next month with a 'nappaccino' coffee morning. The event will show parents how real cotton nappies can save families hundreds of pounds - as much as £600 for a first child - and how it costs Norfolk £300,000 a year to get rid of disposable nappies. It will be held on Monday, 5 April, 2004 at Cromer Parish Hall on Church Street, from 10am to 1.30pm, and visitors to it can claim a £30 voucher from Norfolk County Council towards the purchase of washable nappies. Real nappy retailers will be on hand to discuss the different kinds of washable nappies, and there will be information available about local nappy laundry services. There will also be a Real Nappy Competition with a £50 Argos voucher first prize, and free refreshments and cakes. Visitors can also learn about the environmental impact of disposable nappies A baby normally uses 5000 disposable nappies, compared to just 20 washable ones. Disposable nappies take about 200 years to decompose - so every disposable nappy ever buried in landfill still exists. The equivalent of 7 million trees are used every year to produce Britain's disposable nappies. The event is being organised by Norfolk County Council, North Norfolk District Council and all other Norfolk Districts and Boroughs with the aim of reducing the amount of waste going into landfill. For more information, please contact NNDC's Contracts Division on 01263 516189. The £30 real nappy vouchers are available from the Contracts Division whether you attend the Real Nappy Roadshow on 5 April or not. You can also request one by visiting:
