Find Out About Plans for North Walsham Housing Scheme

9 March, 2004

North Walsham people have a chance next week to drop in and see the plans for an exciting new affordable housing development on Sadlers Way on the eastern edge of the town.

North Norfolk District Council, together with Peddars Way Housing Association (part of the Flagship Housing Group) and Orbit Housing Association, is looking to build 40 new homes for rent, plus a number of "shared ownership" homes, on part of the NNDC-owned site off Brick Kiln Road.

The rented homes would be built for Peddars Way Housing Association for use by North Norfolk households in housing need, with rents set at regulated, affordable levels. The result of a bid for more than £1.5 million from the Housing Corporation towards this part of the development has not yet been announced (it is due later this month).

The "shared ownership" properties would be funded and provided by Orbit Housing Association, and would give people who cannot afford to buy a home outright the chance to get on the property ladder by part-buying and part-renting their home.

Also, the development does not yet have planning permission, but the Council wants to give local people the chance to see what is proposed, and have their questions answered, at an early stage.

Members of the public are welcome to drop in to see the plans, and discuss them with representatives from all partner organisations, in the communal room at the Masters Court sheltered housing scheme on Brick Kiln Road between 3 and 7pm on Tuesday, 16 March.

NNDC Housing Development Officer Nicola Simpson said: "The exact make-up of the scheme is yet to be finalised and will depend on the requirements of any additional partners who may be involved.

"This is a great opportunity to build some much-needed affordable homes, and the views of local people are invaluable to us before a formal planning application is made."
