District's Share of Council Tax to Rise by 6.5%5 March, 2003District and parish council tax bills will rise by an average of 6.5 per cent from April, North Norfolk District Council agreed on 26 February. The increase will mean a rise of £7.93 for the average Band D householder to £129.79, including an average parish precept. This compares with an average Band D council tax of £121.86 in 2002/03 after a rise of 8.8 per cent last year. The District Council's portion of the total council tax paid by householders is nine per cent, and the parish councils' is two per cent; 11 per cent goes to the police and 78 per cent to Norfolk County Council. District Council Leader John Sweeney said: "As Councillors, we wish to provide sustainable services that meet the needs of our residents and visitors. "We are confident that the 2003/04 budget further supports our ambitions for a better quality of life in North Norfolk."
