Active Future for North Norfolk Environment ForumIssued on behalf of the North Norfolk Environment Forum21 January, 2003A new company status for the North Norfolk Environment Forum means that it will now be able to seek out funding for community projects and raise the profile of local environment issues. Established in 1994, the Forum attracted people who wanted to help achieve the aims of the international Local Agenda 21 initiative and take an active part in solving global environmental problems at a local level. "The members of the Forum have worked hard and achieved a great deal on such North Norfolk issues as energy conservation, rural transport, waste reduction, looking after wildlife, and a number of social matters," said Hetty Selwyn, Forum Co-ordinator and NNDC's Environmental Strategy Assistant. "These problems have not gone away, but now the Forum is a company, we hope there will be a renewed effort and an increased emphasis on actions that continue to produce results. The North Norfolk Environment Forum has already organised events as part of international Car Free Day, and introduced a pilot scheme to recycle waste. The first annual general meeting of the company will be held at NNDC's Cromer offices in Holt Road, at 7pm on Wednesday, 29 January. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, when guest speakers will be David Rees, Director of the Orbital Railway Project, and Rob Marshall, Cycling Development Co-ordinator (East) for the National Cycle Strategy. For more information about the Forum and how it may be able to help local people develop projects to improve their environment, please contact Hetty Selwyn on (01263) 516248.
