Public meeting - supported housing scheme in Cromer

Released on 21 January 2002

Cromer residents are invited to a public meeting on 29 January, to hear plans for a proposed supported housing scheme in Cromer town centre.

The project envisages the building of eight new one- and two-bedroom flats and an office, to provide temporary accommodation for single people, couples and small families.

It is proposed that Wherry Housing Association will provide the flats, to meet a demonstrated need for short-term accommodation in Cromer for people (and their children) who become homeless suddenly, who are fleeing domestic violence, who have recently come out of care, or who are vulnerable in other ways.

The flats will give occupants a safe and stable place to stay and the support provided will give them the skills they need to live independently.

North Norfolk District Council will decide who occupies the flats, and the support will be provided by a range of voluntary and statutory agencies. The proposed scheme will need planning permission and depends upon the allocation of funding from the Housing Corporation.

The public meeting will give local people the chance to hear why this facility is needed, and hear from the organisations to be involved in running the flats and providing the advice and support services: North Norfolk District Council, Wherry Housing Association, the Benjamin Foundation, Julian Housing Support, Leeway and the Olive Tree Project.

The meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 29 January, in Cromer Parish Hall. All are welcome.
