Byelection for the Runtons Ward

22 October, 2002

A North Norfolk District Council byelection will be held for the Runtons Ward on Thursday, 5 December, 2002.

Nominations for the byelection, to elect a Councillor to represent East and West Runton, Aylmerton and Beeston Regis, must be received by the Council's Electoral Services Section by 12 noon on Friday, 8 November.

Information about how to stand for election, and the relevant nomination papers, can be obtained at www.northnorfolk.org/democracy. You can also find out more by emailing elecregist@north-norfolk.gov.uk or calling (01263) 516012.

The vacancy arose following the bankruptcy of the incumbent, John Todrayner, which disqualified him from serving as a Councillor.

Whoever is elected on 5 December will only serve until May next year, when elections will be held for every seat on the District Council. Also, the Runtons Ward will cease to exist, and its area will be split among other Wards, when new electoral boundaries come into effect in May.

The rules governing electoral registration mean that only people who were registered by 2 September, 2002, in the Runtons Ward will be eligible to vote in the 5 December byelection.
