The Three Rivers Race
16 June 2004

Thames A Raters take the bend at the Swan Inn, Horning
The first weekend of June was one of the best days of the year to view various types of sailing craft on the Norfolk Broads, among them white boats and traditional Broads cruisers. Over 90 boats competed in the 44 th Navigator and General Three Rivers Race, starting at noon on Saturday 5 th June 2004 .
The race was won by a Thames 'A' Rater, a boat not commonly seen on the Broads. The first Broads yacht to finish was 'Moonshadow', the winning boat in the river cruiser class.
The Three Rivers race is organised by Horning Sailing Club. Competitors sail on three rivers, the Bure, the Ant and the Thurne, and have to complete the 48 mile race in less than 24 hours. Good vantage points for spectators are the pubs in Horning and Potter Heigham and Acle Bridges.
The race is held each year, usually on the first weekend in June. If you come to the Broads for the 2005 race why not visit the Museum of the Broads and discover more about the crafts you see? The Museum Gift Shop has a comprehensive selection of maps to help you follow the route. (Note: In June the Museum is open from 11.00 till 17.00, Monday to Friday.)
