Tuesday 16 June - 2.30 and 7.30pm
A haunting period romance tracing the complicated love affair between a German teenager and a mysterious woman twice his age.
Based on Bernhard Schlink's bestselling novel, the film opens in post-World War II Germany, where Michael Berg falls ill with scarlet fever and is nursed back to health by Hannah. Once recovered, Michael discovers that Hannah loves being read to, and the pair enter a passionate clandestine affair. When Hannah vanishes without a trace, Michael is left heartbroken and despondent. Almost a decade later, he is a law student observing Nazi war crime trials. When Hannah sits in the defendant's chair, her past comes into focus and he uncovers the secret that will have a profound impact on both of their lives.
