Jazz: Jehane Markham Trio

In performance, Jehane Markham, poet and playwright, delivers original poetry whilst jazz duo Robin Phillips (piano) and Jonny Gee (double bass) create musical soundscapes to complement the poetry.

It’s not boring, it’s not difficult to understand,
It’s not run-of-the mill but on the other hand
It is unusual to find a poet with a band.
Though there are only three of us
We have a sound, kind of funky without fuss.
We’ve always got a rhythm, sometimes we’ve got a rhyme,
A lot of words to say in a short space of time.
So come and be surprised and maybe even mesmerised
By a different kind of entertainment
Which will grab you by the heart without explainment.
