A strong human drama with a supernatural element based on stories of East Anglian smuggling and local folk tales.

In 1779, Lord Orford remarked that in the Dunwich area the clergy, lawyers, farmers, JPs, country squires and doctors were all smugglers and in Aldeburgh itself every inhabitant was one except the parson.
