AMATEUR THEATRE "The Yeoman of the Guard"
Tuesday 10 to Saturday 14 June 2008 - 7.30pm

presented by The Sheringham Savoyards
First performed in 1888 many would agree that the score is among Sullivan's finest.
Set in the 16th Century, Gilbert's plot follows the fate of Colonel Fairfax, a prisoner being held in the Tower of London condemned to death, having been falsely accused of being a Sorcerer. To thwart his accuser (who stands to inherit his estate should Fairfax remain a bachelor at his death) on the eve of his execution our hero secretly weds a maiden strolling player. He is however unaware his supporters are hatching a plan to free him pending the arrival of a much hoped for pardon. His escape and the ramifications thereafter provide the usual Gilbert & Sullivan topsy-turvy plot complications with the inevitably happy ending … or do they?
Tickets £10.00
