A pair of star-crossed lovers … with mothers to match.
For fifty years "Gone for a Burton" meant the annual migration of young labourers from East Anglia to Burton-on-Trent to do the malting for the breweries. They worked hard, played hard and at Christmas always brought their mums home a teapot from The Potteries.
Then one lad brought home a baby. Following his "brother's" drowning, Joseph discovers an address in Burton and goes looking for answers. Instead he discovers Norkies pitted against Burtonians in a fight for jobs. He also discovers Emily and in true Romeo and Juliet style they fall in love.
Then his mother arrives…
