**CONSULTATION CLOSED**
2 October - 13 November
What are we consulting on?
This document sets out a new replacement policy for the Conversion & Re-use of Rural Buildings as Dwellings. The policy outlines which types of building and where in the District the Council considers conversion to permanent residential use may be acceptable.
We have spent a great deal of time exploring the issues, consulting with a wide range of organisations and considering existing evidence. It is important now for anyone affected by this policy or who has an interest in the future of our local area to have their say in order that their views can be considered through the Examination which will be held to consider the policy prior to its adoption.

Supporting Documents
The Planning Regulations require that various supporting documents are produced alongside the Draft Policy. These explain the consultation that was undertaken, provide further justification for the proposals and assess the economic, social and environmental impacts of the policy. These are not open to consultation in themselves but can be used to support representations made on the Conversion & Re-use of Rural Buildings as Dwellings Draft Policy.
Background & Methodology (PDF 1.6MB) - This document sets the background to the policy review and provides a more detailed explanation of the policy approach. In addition, detail is provided of the methodology used in the selection of locations where the policy will apply, and the criteria for assessing 'building type' (those buildings potentially eligble for conversion).
Sustainability Appraisal (PDF 3MB) - The Conversion & Re-use of Rural Buildings as Dwellings Draft Policy is subject to a 'Sustainability Appraisal'. The purpose of this document is to examine the economic, social and environmental impacts of the proposed policy so that the Council can ensure that all proposals will help to achieve sustainable development.
Appropriate Assessment (PDF 6.5MB) - This document is an assessment of the potential effects that the policy may have on European Wildlife Sites.
Consultation Statement (PDF 1.9MB) - This document explains how the Council has involved people and organisations in the preparation of the Conversion & Re-use of Rural Buildings as Dwellings Draft Policy.
