03/08/06 - Gypsy & Traveller Update

Traveller site

Government guidance requires that local authorities address the accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers. The need has been identified for a temporary stopping site in the Cromer/Sheringham area and in the Fakenham area. This need is outlined in the Core Strategy document. The Site Specific Proposals would be the mechanism to identify a site for this use.

Consequently, following Cabinet's decision to omit the Gypsy and Traveller sites from the forthcoming consultation exercise in September/ October, officers are discussing with the Government Office how best to take forward the identification of Gypsy and Traveller sites and how this will impact on the timetable for submitting the Site Specific Proposals. Details of the separate timetable and proposed consultation dates on this issue will be available shortly.
