North Norfolk Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework comprises a number of separate documents which are being formulated, and some of which have been completed. The framework incorporates a strategy, policies and proposals setting out how North Norfolk will develop in the period up to 2021. It also contains documents relating to the preparation process: the programme, timetable and methods of community involvement.

Key issues to be addressed by the LDF include the location of new development, securing more affordable housing, environmental protection, economic development, transport, coastal erosion and provision of community facilities.

The diagram to the right shows the documents we are preparing. Use the links provided below to find out more details on each individual document.

The Local Development Scheme is the project plan which sets out our 3-year timetable for producing our planning documents. If our timetable changes, a new Local Development Shceme is usually then required to be produced.

The Statement of Community Involvement sets out how we intend to involve the community in preparing the new documents and in the consideration of planning applications.

The Core Strategy document looks at key issues such as what housing and other land uses should be planned for, the role of the various settlements, how we can protect the environment and reduce the impacts of climate change. The document also contains a range of Development Control policies which are now being used to guide planning decisions.

The Site Specific Proposals document will identify individual allocated sites for specific uses to deliver the requirements of the Core Strategy. Sites will be identified for development based on a range of planning criteria.

The Proposals Map shows on an ordnance survey based map the areas to which Core Strategy policies apply. It will be updated shortly to show the sites identified for future development.

Supplementary Planning Documents will expand on policies and provide detailed supporting information. These can be prepared as required.

Documents are subject to the preparation of Sustainability Appraisals which examine the economic, social and environmental impact of proposed policies or developments.

An Annual Monitoring Report is produced each year and shows how we are keeping to our programme and if Core Strategy policies are achieving their objectives.
