Core Strategy (incorporating Development Control policies)
The Core Strategy looks at key issues such as what housing and other land uses should be planned for, the role of settlements, how we can protect the environment and reduce the impacts of climate change.

North Norfolk District Council has replaced the North Norfolk Local Plan (1998) with a new development plan document known as the Core Strategy. The Council formally adopted the Core Strategy at its Full Council committee meeting on 24th September 2008.
The document provides a detailed framework for the control of development and use of land that will guide most day-to-day planning decisions in North Norfolk.
Briefly, the adopted Core Strategy determines that:
A reference copy of the adopted Core Strategy + Proposals Map can be viewed at North Norfolk Libraries or the District Council's area offices at Cromer and Fakenham. The Core Strategy can be download free of charge or a paper copy may be purchased for £10.00 (inclusive of postage). The Proposals Map and accompanying Inset maps can be downloaded free of charge. Paper copies of maps are available on request. Please contact us on 01263 516318 to discuss your requirements.
Both the Core Strategy and associated Proposals Map are available to view or download below.
Proposals Map
A series of maps are available which should be read in conjunction with the Core Strategy document. The Proposals map shows geographically where the policies in the document apply. The maps consist of a Proposals Map covering the whole district, a map key and 24 separate inset maps covering in greater detail the Principal, Secondary, Service Village and Coastal Service Village settlements. The maps are of sufficient quality to enable users to zoom into a particular plot of land, or to identify a certain street name.
These maps are available to view or download below and paper copies are available on request.
Interactive Map Viewer (Available Shortly)
An online mapping utility has been developed to assist users in determining which Core Strategy policies apply to their land or area of interest. This feature enables users to quickly locate their property by entering their property details, and also incorporates the ability to switch on or off a range of policy designations. For example, a person considering a new residential development could quickly establish if their land is in an area where residential development would be provisionally allowed, if it is in a location liable to flooding, or if it is situated within a protected area.
Using the Maps
When using the paper or interactive maps you should note the boundaries - lines or patterns, and the colours and/or patterns which cover or enclose the area you are interested in. The map key should then be referred to in order to identify what the policies are and how they may affect your proposal.
Requests for General Maps
Unfortunately, other than the Core Strategy maps, the Council is not licensed to provide Ordnance Survey based maps. See our map supplier page for a list of suppliers.
