Core Strategy (incorporating Development Control policies)
The Core Strategy looks at key issues such as what housing and other land uses should be planned for, the role of settlements, how we can protect the environment and reduce the impacts of climate change.
Background information
The Core Strategy was submitted to Government in June 2007 in order for it to be 'Examined'. This is the stage of plan preparation where the Government appoints an independent inspector to examine the draft plan and subject it to a series of tests to see if it is "sound". This means asking is the plan the best response to the problems facing the district and is it "fit for purpose". Mr Philip Goodman has been appointed as the Inspector for the forthcoming Examination process.
The date for submitting representations on the Core Strategy Submission document closed on 30th July 2007 and all representations made during this consultation period are available to view on the Consultation webpage. Alternatively the representations can be viewed or downloaded below:

Several of the representations received suggested fairly minor changes that the District Counils feels can be accommodated within the Core Strategy. A proposed Schedule of Minor Modifications and Further Schedule of Minor Modifications have been prepared which set out the accepted changes made by the Council. The final decision on whether these modifications can be accepted will rest with the Inspector. The complete Core Strategy incorporating the minor modifications listed in the above documents can be viewed below:
All of the comments received during the recent consultation stage have been forwarded to the Inspector for his consideration. The Inspector will consider the representations made and will invite parties to put their views forward at hearing sessions. All those who submitted representations during the consultation will be advised of the Inspectors decision.
The Council has to prepare and submit to the Secretary of State and the Inspector a summary of key issues raised by consultees about the 'soundness' of the Core Strategy. This is a summary of the Council's identification of the main issues, it is not a comprehensive list of all issues raised and does not represent the Inspector's view of the key issues and matters for examination.
