Core Strategy (incorporating Development Control policies)

The Core Strategy looks at key issues such as what housing and other land uses should be planned for, the role of settlements, how we can protect the environment and reduce the impacts of climate change.

Core Strategy Submission (Reg 28)

The Core Strategy Submission Document has been prepared and was approved for submission by Full Council in April 2007. Work on producing the required supporting documents such as the Sustainability Appraisal, Appropriate Assessment and Consultation Statement has now been completed. These documents were submitted to Government in June 2007.

The Core Strategy was submitted to Government in June 2007 in order for it to be 'Examined'. This is the stage of plan preparation where the Government appoints an independent inspector to examine the draft plan and subject it to a series of tests to see if it is "sound". This means asking is the plan the best response to the problems facing the district and is it "fit for purpose". Mr Philip Goodman was appointed as the Inspector.

A six-week period of public consultation ran from from midday 18th June to midday 30th July 2007.

All of the comments received during the submission consultation stage were forwarded to the Inspector for his consideration. The Inspector considered the representations made and invited parties to put their views forward at hearing sessions. The Public Hearing Sessions commenced on 4th December 2007 and closed on Friday 18th January. All those who submitted representations during the consultation will be advised of the Inspectors decision. For up to date details on the examination please see the Examination Page.

Copies of the Core Strategy were sent to all Town and Parish Councils as well as those organisations that were involved in the earlier stages of the consultation process. Statutory adverts were placed in local newspapers to give notive of the consultation and these can be viewed below.
