Core Strategy (incorporating Development Control policies)
The Core Strategy looks at key issues such as what housing and other land uses should be planned for, the role of settlements, how we can protect the environment and reduce the impacts of climate change.

The Core Strategy was submitted to Government in June and a six-week period of public consultation ran from 18th June to 30th July 2007. Comments made at this stage (and previous stages) can be viewed via our online consultation system or the following Reg 29 Representations report.
A range of supporting documents were published which are shown below. You can view these documents by following the links given.
Core Strategy (Submission) Development Plan Document
The Core Strategy outlines the vision and overall objectives for development in North Norfolk up to 2021. This document also contains the district-wide Development Control policies for North Norfolk that will inform future planning decisions. Key parts of the Core Strategy include a Development Strategy which states where new housing and other development should be focussed, plus a range of policies showing the Councils preferred approach to tourism, flood risk, coastal erosion, climate change, redundant defence establishments and protecting the natural and built environment.
In autumn of last year we asked you for your comments on the Core Strategy 'Preferred Options' document. Over 1,000 responses were received to this consultation and consideration of these informed the development of the Core Strategy policies that were submitted to Government for Examination in June 2007 - this document is known as the Core Strategy (Submission) Development Plan Document. Comments made at earlier stages cannot be simply carried forward. If you do not feel that your concerns or issues are reflected in the submission document then you must have submitted your comments again for the Inspector's consideration.
Proposals Map
Accompanying the Core Strategy is the Proposals Map document. The District Council is required to maintain an adopted Proposals Map to explain geographically the locations where Core Strategy policies and designations would apply. The Council has prepared two documents to illustrate and seek views on the changes that are proposed to the existing adopted Proposals Map (North Norfolk Local Plan, 1998). The Core Strategy (Submission) Proposals Map document shows current and proposed policy area designations. The Core Strategy Proposals Map Supplement defines the proposed Coastal Erosion Constraint Area.
You may find it helpful to print off the key to the maps.
NB: Ommission from Proposals Map (Setting of Sheringham Park designation) can be viewed here.
Supporting Documents
The Regulations require that various supporting documents are produced alongside the Core Strategy. These explain the consultation that was undertaken, provide further justification for policy areas and assess the economic, social and environmental impacts of the Core Strategy. These are not open to consultation in themselves but can be used to support representations made on the Core Strategy.

Submitting Your Comments **Consultation is now closed**
The Core Strategy has already been through a period of public consultation and the comments made have been taken into account in producing the submission document. The Inspector appointed to assess the Core Strategy is concerned with whether the document is 'sound' - this means asking "is the document fit for its purpose?" A range of tests have been compiled by the Planning Inspectorate to be used when submitting comments on the Core Strategy, these are called the 'Tests of Soundness'. Your comments should directly relate to one or more of the tests of soundess. Details of the tests, how to submit your comments and the comments (representation) form have been published in the Guidance Notes below.
