Core Strategy (incorporating Development Control policies)

The Core Strategy looks at key issues such as what housing and other land uses should be planned for, the role of settlements, how we can protect the environment and reduce the impacts of climate change.

Preferred Options Stage (Reg 26)

Prefered Options Consultation 25 September to 6 November 2006

The main stage of the options consultation was the development of the 'Preferred Options' report. This document sets out the Councils preferred approach on a number of areas such as the Development Strategy (i.e. where new development should go), and issues relating to housing, environment, tourism, economy, transport etc.

We produced two documents which contain the Council's 'Preferred Options' - these are the Council's suggestions for the future development and protection of North Norfolk.

The two documents are;

  • The Core Strategy
    This document sets out the district-wide policies for North Norfolk that will inform future planning decisions. Key parts of the Core Strategy include a Development Strategy which states where new housing and other development should be focussed, plus a range of policies showing the Councils preferred approach to tourism, flood risk, coastal erosion, climate change, redundant defence establishments and protecting the natural and built environment.
  • The Site Specific Proposals
    This document identifies which sites should be developed in order to achieve the aims of the Core Strategy. It includes proposals for new housing, employment, retail and other development, together with other uses of land such as parks and open space.

The Core Strategy and the Site Specific Proposals are subject to 'Sustainability Appraisals'. The purpose of these documents is to examine the economic, social and environmental impacts of the proposed policies so we can ensure that all policies will help to achieve sustainable development. The Sustainability Appraisals were also available for commenting on and can be viewed or downloaded below, along with other supporting information.
